Accountants play a critical role in a company’s many financial facets. In general, they balance books, record costs and profits, execute payroll, pay taxes and bills, and issue financial statements to outside organizations. Although these may appear to be straightforward tasks, accountants are required to be well-versed in protocol and regulations to avoid scandal, which results in costly fines and marred reputations. However, the accounting industry is drawing a breath of fresh air after exchanging paper spitting calculators and ledger sheets for advanced accounting software. Career Accountants now have the opportunity to wear the consulting hat, spending less time crunching numbers and more time serving as financial vernacular translators for the management sector.

This new hat also comes with a whole new outfit. Employers now seek Accounting applicants that are not only math and detail-oriented, but possess analytical thinking skills that lend them to spot and solve problems. Still, even the best solutions are worthless if they cannot be communicated to a member that can implement it. Therefore, strong written and verbal communication skills are important qualifications for the modern accounting position. A bachelor’s degree in finance, business, or management of information systems (MIS) is considered suitable training by employers for the technical, analytical, and communication skills necessary to succeed in entry-level positions. The American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, however, requires 150 hours of university education, thirty hours more than a typical four-year degree, before qualifying to take the CPA exam. For those embarking on the internal auditing and management accounting career path, there is the Internal Auditors or the Institute of Management Accountants, which issue certifications required by some employers. Qualifications for bookkeeping positions are much more lax, offering positions to high school graduates, associate degree holders, or people with a degree in an unrelated field. Notably, these positions are often more tedious and offer less compensation.

Optimistically speaking, there are several accounting career tracks in the industry that highlight a wide range of interests and accountant training: public accounting, in-house accounting, internal auditors, management accountants, government accountants, bookkeepers and auditing clerks, and independent. Public Accountants prepare a company’s tax statements and external auditing, which make financial records available to the government and the public. These accountants enjoy the flexibility of their work because their skills are needed by small and big firms alike. In-House Accountants set budgets, manage assets and payroll, track payments, and handle other financial matters. Internal Auditors and Management Accountants assume a more internal function by checking accounting systems for clerical errors, enforcing regulations, streamlining processes, advising on critical decisions and strategy planning. Government Accountants are financial disciplinarians that collect revenue and see that it is spent in accordance with the law. Bookkeepers and Auditing Clerks perform the task of inputting data into the company’s financial record keeping system. However, once you are earned your CPA, the allure of becoming an entrepreneur gains strength since many businesses are willing to arrange for advising sessions and tax return work on a contract basis.

Regardless of the position, a career in accounting offers many opportunities to move up after getting that foot into the door, and right now the door is open. After a series of industry scandals, companies are eagerly seeking ethical applicants to fill forensic positions in order to reestablish their clients?faith. The public accounting sector also has many available positions in auditing and taxes. These Accounting Career opportunities are primarily situated in the health care and manufacturing industries, but the Big Four Accounting Firms (Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu, Ernst & Young, KPMG, and PricewaterhouseCoopers) are always looking for bright-eyed youngsters to fill menial positions in exchange for a big name to print on a resume.

The Big Four Accounting Firms offer a far from shabby starting salary in the mid $30,000s to $40,000 for entry-level accounting employees who quickly move up to the mid $40,000 to high $50,000 upon reaching seniority status. Management Accountants earn $60,000 to mid $70,000 a year and partners generally make more than $120,000.

Although smaller firms may offer slightly lower wages, salaries in general are projected to continue rising in the industry over the next few years.

If you are considering a career as a certified public accountant than I have only a few words available for you: do it. Regardless of whether an organization is big or small, or what kind of business they are in, all organizations need a good CPA.

The CPA license is noticed by all and in sought after demand. Aside from that, a starting CPA is able to get a decent salary almost instantly. Employers recognize that using a good accountant is a necessity, not much of a choice. They are happy to spend on the position because it is so essential to the success of their company.

Needless to say, you aren’t able to get a CPA salary until you get a CPA license. So be sure that you study hard and select the right CPA review course. The exam isn’t cheap so it will be essential that you pass it on your first attempt.

The following are average pay scales organized by company size. All of the following pay scales are for Junior Level accountants.

Public Accounting for a Large Firm – $52,000-$75,000

Public Accounting for a Medium Firm – $42,000-$66,000

Small Firm, Public: $44,500 to $64,500

Lrg. Organization, Corporate Accountant – $44K-$68K

Med. Organization, Corporate Accountant – $44K-$66K

Small Organization, Corporate: $35,500 to $55,500

So as you can see, the wages for starting accountants covers a rather broad range. Another thing to take into consideration once you begin your job search is what type of company you desire to work with. Large companies have the advantage of paying you more. However, you might specifically be interested in working for a smaller start-up organization. The decision is perfectly up to you.

The great news is that CPAs are often able to find work with relative ease. Some people refer to it as an evergreen market because positions are forever in high demand. Because of this high demand comes solid career security. The rate of pay estimated really hasn’t changed a whole lot through the years.

Another thing to look into is common CPA salary by state. States are fairly competitive with each other but their rates can alter dependent upon population and graduation numbers of CPAs over the last couple of years.

So, good luck. Remember to study hard and concentrate on the goal. All of your effort can pay off once you get your first job with a major firm!

If you’re serious about earning that CPA salary, then make sure that you look in to the the CPA exam requirements and study hard!

We all need help looking after our money, whether we fit in the category of the remarkably rich, the entrepreneur starting a new business or the student who got into debt by staying in full time education. If you like the idea of providing careful planning and constant attention to an individuals’ or company’s bank balance and want to follow a career path where the higher you go, the more money you earn, then consider an accounting apprenticeship!

Businesses have to cope with a variety of financial activities going on around them and need the assistance from accountants to deal with things like expenses, revenues, bills and taxes, which also applies to many individuals. An accounting apprentice could be managing the finances for a diverse number of businesses – a large organisation, a retail store, a charity, a football club or even the government.

During this apprenticeship you will learn how to balance accounts, process payments and invoices, complete VAT returns and prepare financial reports. Depending on where you work, you could specialize in one area such as sales, and do all these tasks in addition to others. Most apprentices qualify as accounts assistants, credit control clerks, accounts clerks, or finance assistants – they all help accountants to manage financial records and prepare accounts.

When you complete the apprenticeship you can opt to go on to an Advanced Apprenticeship, in order to obtain the necessary foundation to complete a professional accountancy qualification with a membership organisation like the ICAEW, ACCA, CIMA or CIPFA: these can lead to a specialist role in accounting- and consequently, more money!

In order to succeed you will need to be good at maths, have an understanding of financial terms and have good IT skills (especially with spreadsheets). Someone who works in accounts needs to be a trustworthy person as they may be dealing with confidential and sensitive information. Taking an interest in up to date financial industry news is also well advised as you do not want to be advising anyone with the wrong decision if the current economy suggests otherwise. It is also equally as important to be good with people and enjoy the challenge of helping others achieve their financial goals.

If you think this is the type of role you would like to pursue then check out the latest available opportunities at notgointouni.co.uk – they offer a wide range of apprenticeships in addition to many other routes to a successful career.

notgoingtouni helps young adults with their future by highlighting jobs and training that are available outside of university. There are several accounting apprenticeships currently available as well as free career guides and over 300 videos on distance learning, foundation degrees, gap years, voluntary work and advice on getting a sponsored degree.

Prometric offers the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA)’s Uniform Certified Public Accountant Exam (CPA Exam) at certain of Prometric’s test centers. The CPA Exam is given as a Computer-Based Test.

The CPA Exam has four parts: the Auditing and Attestation CPA Exam, the Business Environment and Concepts (BEC) CPA Exam, Financial Accounting and Reporting (FAR) CPA Exam, and Regulation (REG) CPA Exam. To prepare to pass, you can take an unlimited number of CPA Exam simulations at CPAexcel.

Prometric is a company which is hired by a variety of government and professional organizations to offer their certification exams at Prometric centers. Microsoft, a national veterinary association, and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) all offer their certification exams through Prometric’s test centers. Prometric has thousands of test centers around the world but only 300 of those in the United States offer the CPA Exam.

The AICPA writes the exam. The National Association of State Boards of Accountancy (NASBA) maintains accurate databases of the requirements to sit for the exam as determined by the 54 jurisdictions* and the database of candidates for the CPA designation. After your state/jurisdiction approves you to sit for the exam, NASBA sends you the Notice to Schedule (NTS) which allows you to register for one of the Prometric test center locations, and select a day and time to sit for the exam. After you sit for the exam, Prometric sends your test data to AICPA for scoring. AICPA sends the scores to NASBA which in turn distributes the information to the jurisdictions. Your jurisdiction will send you your score.

(*The 54 jurisdictions are the 50 U.S. states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, U.S. Virgin Islands and Guam.)

In 2004, the CBT format replaced the paper and pencil format which was the traditional method for delivering the CPA Exam.

CBT is the only format in which the test is offered but if requested at the time of application, certain accommodations in accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) can be made for specific candidates.

There are three professional organizations which work together to create, present, and score the CPA Exam. The American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) writes and scores the exam. NASBA (National Association of State Boards of Accountancy) maintains the National Candidate Database and the database of state requirements to sit for the Uniform CPA Exam. Prometric provides the testing facilities for administering the CPA Exam.

Once you have your Notice to Schedule from NASBA, you need to know some basic facts before you contact Prometric:

1.	When is the exam offered? The CPA Exam is given during testing windows which are the first two months of every quarter. That would be: January, February, April, May, July, August, October, and November.

2.	Where the exam is offered? While Prometric has thousands of testing centers around the world, it only offers the CPA Exam at just over 300 testing centers in the U.S. and its territories. Check out your state Board of Accountancy website for testing locations.

3.	What is the CPA Exam? As the name implies, the Uniform CPA Examination is indeed uniform from Virginia to the U.S. Virgin Islands and Washington state to Washington, D.C. Since the same CPA Exam is given at every Prometric CPA Exam testing center, you do not have to physically sit in a testing center in the state which approved you to sit for the exam. For instance, you can sit for the test when you are visiting relatives in Santa Rosa, California even though South Dakota approved your application to sit.

4.	Who administers the CPA Exam? Prometric administers the giving of the CPA Exam in all 54 jurisdictions. (See “Jurisdictions.”) Contact the Prometric Candidate Services Call Center at 800-696-2722 or www. Prometric.com to schedule the exam.

5.	For Guam, refer to the NASBA testing center. If you applying to the Guam test center, read the directions in the Candidate Bulletin.

At CPAexcel, the countdown to 2011 has begun. CPAexcel is the only CPA Exam which never expires, you can order it now and study for the current 2010 CPA Exam Review Prep Review. If you have not passed all four parts by the end of 2010, you will have access to the new 2011 CBT-e content and functionality for free!

Interested in an accounting distance learning degree? Not sure which online accounting degree program is right for you? (Hint: It depends on your career goals.)

Interested in an accounting distance learning degree? Not sure which online accounting degree program is right for you? (Hint: It depends on your career goals.)

Here’s a breakdown of the different online accounting degree programs you can take advantage of–and which classes you should be taking to set you up for the career you’ve always wanted.

Accounting Distance Learning Degree No. 1: Fastpass to a Career (AA)

Not every online institution offers an accounting associate’s degree, but many do provide 2- year accounting distance learning degrees–and the number of schools doing this continues to rise.

For the most part accounting AA degrees will give you a foundation in basic procedures in accounting–along with background in the princples of payroll work–giving you the chance to skip over the traditional 4-year accounting degree format and plunge right into a job as a billing clerk, payroll clerk, or a bookkeeper.

Accounting Distance Learning Degree No. 2: Middle Way (BA)

If you want a more deep dive into accounting, and would also like to round out your education with some interdisciplinary courses (English anybody?) then an online accounting BA degree might be exactly what you’re looking for.

These 4-year accounting degree programs will give you: broad look at just how accounting operates, solid tranining in all accounting procedures and techniques, and an introduction to all the latest tech advances in the field of accounting.

Now it’s true that some people do use the 4-year program as a precursor to a gradaute accounting degree. But you don’t have to do that. 4-year accounting degrees will give you the training you need to qualify you for all entry-level accounting jobs and for a good portion of most mid-level accounting gigs.

Accounting Distance Learning Degree No. 3: The Last Step (Graduate)

So if you’ve got the B.A. in your backpocket, even if it happens to not be in accounting, then you’ll probably benefit most from an online graduate accounting degree.

There are generally two different ways to go:

1) An MBA (Master’s of Business Administration) with an emphasis on accounting 2) Master’s in Accounting

Both degrees are training you for a career in accounting management. But they are different in what they emphasize.

An MBA is more about having a broad understanding of accounting knowledge that is relevant to all areas of a business. (That’s why they make for good CEO’s.)

The other program (MaCC) is a laser-focused program in accounting which covers areas usch as tax consulting, auditing, taxation, etc. It also has hard-core training for the CMA and CPA exams.

Want to find out more about how accounting distance learning can get you a good paying job and a new career, then visit http://accounting-distance-learning.com/ for more info on how to get you a rewarding and challenging occupation.

The first task is resume writing. What you need to know is that rules have changed. No longer will a standard resume template to the trick. Because HR managers are now getting so many job applications, they will only pick the best resumes with the right keywords. If your resume looks like dozens of other resumes, it will get trashed so it is crucial to make your resume stand out.

When it comes to finding a job, there are several avenues you can explore. Do not spend time getting newspapers to look at job classifieds. Now everything is on the internet. Not only are newspapers listing local job ads online but there are hundreds of job sites available, from big sites like Hotjobs and Employment911 to niche sites specialized by industry, field or geographical location.

Another good way to find a job is to find those vacancies that are not advertised. How do you this? Well, first by networking. Ask people around you, go to industry networking events, etc … You can also go to a local library to find companies in your field that you can contact.

Another trick that isn’t well-known is to check out expired jobs. Why? First this will allow you to find extra companies that were hiring your field. Chances are they might have an opening coming soon so if you send them your resume, you will be ahead of the game and they might call you before posting an announcement. Also, this will allow you to find out how much these companies pay, which will help you when it comes to negotiating a salary.

Follow those steps and, with a good resume and persistence, you will be able to find a good job.

Employment911 is a premier online destination for accounting jobs and Florida jobs.
